The study of qualified emigration has returned to the political and scientific agendas in recent decades. Currently the theoretical approaches have changed from a completely renewed economic, political, social and technological context. This article presents a summary of these new approaches and a current overview of skilled migration of Spaniards, based on a review of the specialized literature.

A partir das experiências dos/as médicos/as latino-americanos/as que exercem a sua profissão em Portugal e em Espanha, o artigo busca comparar o recrutamento internacional dos/as médicos/as, o reconhecimento das qualificações para o exercício da Medicina e os processos de integração profissional no sistema de saúde português e espanhol. Para isso, foi utilizada uma metodologia qualitativa baseada em entrevistas em profundidade. Migration and fdi: the role of job skills

Abstract Using a multi-country gravity framework, this paper models and quantifies the relevance of migrants' job position in fostering Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). High-skilled migrants are defined as those individuals born in the investors' home/host country occupying managerial or professional positions in the host/home country of investment. Our estimates show that higher shares of migrants with management skills in a given country promote FDI into that country. In contrast, an increase in the share of migrants in non-qualified positions (regardless of their educational attainment) has a negative impact on FDI decisions. The recent economic crisis has led to an upswing in migration from the Mediterranean countries of Europe towards its central and northern development hubs. Nuevas perspectivas de análisis para entender la migración cualificada del sur de Europa hacia México

This article focuses on skilled migration flows from Southern Europe into Mexico. From semi-structured interviews with Spanish and Italian immigrants living in four Mexican cities of Mexico, it addresses both reasons for immigration and labour incorporation in Mexican labour markets. Specifically, it explores: i) the role of the economic crisis and the lack of good employment in the countries of origin as a key factor when deciding an international migration; ii) the employment opportunities offered in Mexican labour markets for the highly-skilled immigrants, and iii) the role played by the Mexican state and its current immigration law when channelling this group into the labour market
